The Butterfly 🦋 Effect is our sorority initiative for Lupus Awareness and Research. Lupus is a chronic, autoimmune disease that can damage any part of the body (to include your skin, joints, and/or organs inside the body). With lupus, your autoimmune system attacks itself because it cannot differentiate between your body’s tissue and disease-causing agents. It can be difficult to diagnose because its signs and symptoms often mimic those of other ailments. The most distinctive sign of lupus — a facial rash that resembles the wings of a butterfly unfolding across both cheeks.

Currently, there is no cure for lupus. Organizations worldwide continue tirelessly researching to discover both a cause and a cure. These organizations depend on grants, loans, and donations to operate. Nu Psi Zeta has chosen Crowning Lupus as the organization we will donate to, to further the fight for those living with Lupus.

 

Crowning Lupus was created on February 29, 2013 by lupus fighter, Jade Nealious. The goal of this organization is to educate communities across the nation about the effects of lupus. The founder also provides assistance to those in need outside of the organization. This organization operates solely under the guidance of volunteers spread throughout Aiken, South Carolina and Augusta, Georgia. It is our hope, that with our monetary donations, we can help this organization reach, enrich, and uplift as many people as possible.
